UNHEARD VOICES
ARRIVAL
Africa Advocacy Foundation
OVERVIEW
My collaboration with the Africa Advocacy Foundation (AAF) began with a clear goal: to amplify the voices of the African diaspora in London and address their unique challenges. Over six years, I have worked closely with AAF to create and direct a range of impactful projects focused on HIV awareness and the complexities of migration, mental health, and physical health. AAF, a community-driven organization that feels like a close-knit family, has been both a partner and a source of inspiration throughout this journey.
UNHEARD VOICES
One of our most notable projects is the Unheard Voices campaign. This Windrush-inspired series of images captures the various challenges faced by the African diaspora in London. The campaign’s powerful portraits and storytelling have been recognized with the Paris Photo Prize for Portrait Photography of the Year. The series has been exhibited at significant events, including the Fast Track Cities Congress and, most recently, the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Journeys Festival curated by acclaimed musician and composer Nitin Sawhney.
HIV AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS
In addition to Unheard Voices, I have led numerous initiatives aimed at raising awareness about HIV. This includes creative direction and design for several campaigns, such as Prep & Prejudice, in collaboration with Public Health England and various local councils. These campaigns have played a crucial role in educating and engaging the community on sexual health issues.
A key innovation in our work with AAF has been the development of the AFYA app. This unique platform has provided an engaging way to raise awareness about sexual health and HIV. The app reflects our commitment to using technology to support and inform the community.
VISUAL LIBRARY AND DESIGN ASSETS
Throughout our partnership, I have also contributed to building a comprehensive visual library for AAF. This library supports various awareness campaigns with tailored imagery and design assets, enhancing the effectiveness of our outreach efforts.
A DEEP CONNECTION
From the beginning, my work with AAF has been deeply fulfilling. The organization’s commitment to addressing hard-hitting issues like FGM and racism, combined with its supportive community ethos, has made our collaboration both impactful and personally rewarding. The close relationship with AAF has allowed me to serve their needs effectively, contributing to a range of projects that resonate with the community’s experiences and challenges.
